The Style Doctor is proud to be facilitating this year's 'Saddle up for Spring' Best Dressed Competition at Hawkesbury Race Club on Saturday 5th September 2020. All the details you need to know are below.

Saddle Up for Spring

Best Dressed Competition – Saturday 5th September 2020

Photo competition will take place on the front lawn near the Premium Trackside Precinct at Hawkesbury Race Club, Racecourse Rd, Clarendon NSW 2756 on Saturday the 5thSeptember. Photos will be taken from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. No photos will be taken after 2:00pm and you must have your photo taken on course to enter the competition.

The top 3 best dressed in each category will be invited back at 2:45pm (time may be changed due to race times) and the winner and runner up will be announced for the Best Dressed Lady and Best Dressed Gentlemen categories. You will be texted on the day to come back if you are in the top 3. Due to covid restrictions we can no longer host a final so the competition will be judged on your photo(s).

Carole Maher, Couture Milliner

Carole is a full time, qualified Couture Milliner and an International Millinery Tutor and Lecturer who spends at least 3 months of each year teaching millinery masterclasses in London, Spain, France, Netherlands, USA, Canada, Ireland and Scotland and Australia.  She is a regular visiting lecturer/tutor (the only Australian milliner to teach here) at the Royal College of Art London.  She is a trail-blazer for milliners teaching overseas and is a regular Masterclass tutor at London Hat Week  

Carole produces 2 collections a year for her private clients as well as in-store exclusive “one off” collections. 

Carole is passionate and dedicated to innovation in millinery and specialises in new high tech materials and developing new millinery techniques. She has, and continues to, develop and introduce thermo plastics, thermo formable materials and new high tech materials into the millinery and fashion industries worldwide.  

Carole lives on a 50-acre farm an hour from Sydney with her husband and a multitude of Australian animals.

Carole is also a Millinery Features writer with articles published in The Hat Magazine, London

Donny Galella, Celebrity Stylist

Donny Galella is one of Australia’s most in demand fashion stylists with over 14 years industry experience. His vast portfolio includes styling photo shoots and dressing celebrities for awards nights and red carpet appearances including The Oscars, Emmys, Logies, ARIA Awards, AACTA Awards, Dally M, Brownlow Medal and The Australian Cricket Awards.

Appearing regularly on Channel 7’s The Morning Show and Sunrise over the past 10 years. He has also performed a number of makeovers on the hit TV shows including Beauty and the Geek, The Biggest Loser (2017) and Makeover Street on Channel 9. He has also appeared on Today Tonight, Mornings with Kerri Anne, Today, Weekend Today and A Current Affair.

Donny is passionate about making fashion and style accessible for all Australians. His down to earth nature, combined with his innate understanding of the real Australian consumer, gives him the extraordinary ability to connect with this diverse audience. His mantra is ‘everyone deserves to look good and feel fabulous, no matter their age, shape, size or shopping budget.’ With over 1000 makeovers in his career to date, Donny is on a serious crusade to make the Australian population feel more confident and positive about their self-image.

Donny is no stranger to Fashions on the Field having presented and judged the esteemed Myer Fashions on the Field at Flemington and the Fashion Chute in Sydney.  He has also dressed numerous clients for the races including Nikki Phillips, Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Hawkins, Dannii Minogue, Rebecca Judd and Ada Nicodemou to name a few.

Donny will be judging the Hawkesbury Races 'Saddle up for Spring' best dressed photo competition on the 5th September remotely.

Leena Thompson, Celebrity Stylist 

Celebrity Fashion stylist Leena Thompson has had a 15 year fashion career styling many local and international celebrities. She has Styled runway shows and photo shoots. 

Leena’s motto is:  “It’s how you wear fashion not what you wear” 

Leena has judged numerous Fashions on the Field Competitions including Myer at Randwick on Derby Day and Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day, Golden slipper at Rosehill and the Blue Diamond at Caulfield 

Leena has worked her magic and created outstanding race wear looks for Emma Booth, Jessica McNamee, Renee Bargh, Tiarnie Coupland, Tammin Sursok, Sophie Hensoir, Natalie Roser, Monika Radulovic, Cherry Cassidy, Megan Gale and Firass Durani 

Leena will be looking for men and women who can pull off an amazing spring race wear look.  She wants to see colour and coordination from hairdo to shoes and the right balance of the outfit.

Best Dressed Lady

Race wear for women at Saddle Up For Spring should be conservative yet fun, usually a flowing dress or skirt. Bands, boaters, big brims, bucket hats and bows are on trend this season to compliment the look.

  1. Your photo(s) taken on Saddle Up For Spring race day on Saturday 5thSeptember at Hawkesbury Race Track is your entry in the competition
  2. Your photo must be shared on instagram on Saturday 5thSeptember 2020 and you must tag @hawksburyraces and @thestyledr in your photo and use the hash tag #SUFS2020 
  3. Contestants and/or their outfits are not permitted to promote commercially a brand, store or Designer or receive a commercial benefit from appearing in the competition. Contestants must not receive any payment or benefit from a third party (including any commercial enterprise) for entering, participating or otherwise in connection with this Competition. 
  4. Any person who is in any way involved with, an organisation or individual (including Milliners or Designers) that commercially produces fashion clothing, hats or similar for profit, and is deemed to receive an advantage through that position (at Hawkesbury Race Club’s discretion), is ineligible to enter this competition. 
  5. Contestants may only enter this competition in their own private capacity and not on behalf of a third party, including commercial enterprise, Designer or Milliner. 
  6. Contestants must not in any way disparage or make derogatory comments in any form about the Promoter, the Best Dressed competition or other contestants at any time. 
  7. If a Contestant is in breach of any of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may (at its absolute discretion) disqualify the Contestant
  8. Judges decisions are fair, unbiased and final on the day of judging 
  9. No alteration of your look from the photo till the final will be accepted and if alterations are made you may be disqualified at the discretion of the judges
  10. Prizes are awarded to one winner and one runner up in each category and you must be there at the time of the winning announcement to receive your prizes.
  11.  Committee members and staff members of Hawkesbury races and The Style Doctor are not permitted to enter 
  12.  Prizes are not transferable or redeemable for cash
  13.  Consent for the Hawkesbury Race Club (HRC) to use your photo and images taken on the day for media and promotional purposes including but not limited to social media, newspapers, magazines, brochures, television advertisements, promotional videos, websites, or other multi-media, for public relations, promotions, commercial and advertising purposes (“Promotional Materials”)
